What are Anxiety Disorders?

Anxiety disorders involve an excessive amount of worry or concern that impacts a person’s everyday life and interferes with the ability to carry out necessary tasks such as work, school, and social activities. People who have an anxiety disorder usually cope by avoiding things that make them anxious or developing behavior patterns that help them get through difficult situations. These ways of coping can also get in the way of their ability to engage in life experiences that are usually enjoyed.  

 Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet people continue to struggle to find the appropriate care. It is the mission of Seacoast OCD and Anxiety Center to improve access to care for sufferers of anxiety through treatment, education, dissemination and consultation with families and health care providers seeking to improve their knowledge of anxiety and effective ways of working through anxiety and related disorders.
